The show is based on the film of the same name. Set in 1962, it features the character Tracy Turnblad, a larger than life girl with a larger than life voice. Desperate to be a dancer she wins a spot on a local TV dance programme and overnight becomes a hit with audiences nationwide. She sets out to outshine the reigning dance princess of the show and the story follows her quest for fame and recognition.

With a catchy, feel good soundtrack featuring many favourite tunes from the 1960s, Hairspray the Musical is a must see show for all the family. In the UK tour, the show boasted some big names including Michael Ball, Les Dennis, Brian Conley and Nigel Planer. The show also won Best Regional Music Award at the Broadwayworld.com awards.

Tickets were extremely popular and every show on the tour was well attended. No dates for a further tour have been made public but it is very much a case of watch this space as this popular show is bound to be touring again based on the success of the 2011 tour.
